Die Horrorserie „The Purge“ ist eine Adaption der Horrorfilmreihe. Einmal im Jahr findet der sogenannte Purge-Day statt. Für 12 Stunden dürfen die Bürger tun und lassen, was sie wollen, jeder hat also Narrenfreiheit. Alle illegalen Taten werden nicht geahndet, was auch Mord einschließt. Die Polizei bleibt an diesem Tag tatenlos sitzen. Auch die Krankenhäuser werden geschlossen. Jeder ist für sich selbst verantwortlich.
